Hauser & Wirth Zürich

Hauser & Wirth was founded in Zurich in 1992 by Iwan Wirth, Manuela Wirth and Ursula Hauser, who were joined by partner and president Marc Payot in 2000. A family business with a global reach, Hauser & Wirth represents over 100 artists and estates that have shaped the company's identity and are the inspiration for Hauser & Wirth's diverse activities in the fields of art, education, conservation and sustainability.

The gallery not only presents a dynamic exhibition program, but also collaborates with renowned curators to present museum-quality exhibitions. The gallery has developed an ambitious and academically rigorous program of historical exhibitions, hosting a number of significant 20th century artists' estates and fostering an ongoing and engaging discourse about their works. These include Louise Bourgeois, The Estate of Philip Guston, The Eva Hesse Estate, Allan Kaprow Estate, Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts, The Estate of Jason Rhoades, Dieter Roth Estate and The Estate of David Smith. 

In keeping with Hauser & Wirth's artistic vision, the publishing house works to take readers into the universe of artists and behind the scenes of their work. From publishing artists' texts and exceptional exhibition-related books to commissioning research and providing the highest craftsmanship in design and bookmaking, Hauser & Wirth Publishing creates vibrant, lasting records of artists' work and ideas, creating critical access points to the cultural discourse they inspire. 

Since the conversion of its first permanent venue in the former Löwenbräu brewery building, which became Hauser & Wirth Zurich in 1996, the gallery has developed and sensitively restored existing structures that respond to their surroundings, combining international art with local culture through architecture. The gallery renovated Durslade Farm, a collection of derelict agricultural buildings in rural Somerset, to open a world-class art center, Hauser & Wirth Somerset, in 2014, and converted a 100,000-square-foot former flour mill, the Globe Mills complex, in downtown Los Angeles in 2016. In 2018, Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles was honored with the Los Angeles Conservancy's highest honor, the Chair's Award, which recognizes the importance of preserving historic places that make Los Angeles unique. In July 2021, the gallery opened an art center on Isla del Rey, Menorca, following a project to preserve and repurpose existing historic buildings on the island. The project was awarded the European Heritage Award by Europa Nostra and the Best Social Responsibility Initiative of the Government of the Balearic Islands, among others.

In October 2023, a new gallery opened in Paris on the right bank of the Seine near the Champs-Élysées in the 8th arrondissement with an inaugural exhibition by Henry Taylor. In November 2023, the gallery will expand its New York presence with a new gallery on Wooster Street in Soho's historic Cast Iron District. In addition, a building at 443 West 18th Street in New York will house Hauser & Wirth Editions, new versions of the popular Hauser & Wirth Publishers Bookstore and Roth Bar, and the Hauser & Wirth Learning Hub for educational and community programs and projects.
